Frequently Asked Questions

  • At Sprout Therapeutics, we believe that every child has the right to communication. We stay up to date with evidence-based treatment methods and attend trainings that will best serve our clients. We combine our expertise with care and practice support to help your child achieve progress that lasts. At Sprout, we are committed to providing neurodiversity affirming care. We are passionate about listening to the voices of neurodiverse individuals and combating ableist beliefs. We believe in utilizing a strengths based approach, celebrating each person's unique strengths and differences. • Neurodiversity affirming practices refer to a set of strategies that aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment for students with diverse neurological and cognitive needs. These practices recognize that different students learn differently and that there is no "normal" way of learning. Instead, they celebrate the unique strengths and abilities of each student and provide them with the necessary tools and accommodations to succeed in their academic pursuits. Compliance is not required, and a child’s autonomy and agency is valued in the therapy setting. This practice can help students feel more engaged and invested in their education, leading to better academic outcomes.

  • If you have concerns about your child’s speech and language development, we recommend taking a proactive approach and seeking an evaluation. You know your child best, and you don’t have to wait and see if you have concerns. Trust your instincts and don't hesitate to reach out for support. Your proactive approach can make a significant difference in your child's development and overall well-being. By seeking an evaluation, you are taking an important step towards understanding your child's unique needs and providing them with the necessary resources and support to thrive!

  • Sprout Therapeutics offers all of our speech and language therapy services in the comfort of your child's own home, unless otherwise requested (we will happily travel to daycares, preschools, and private programs, where allowed).

  • Yes! Sprout Therapeutics is in network with Cigna, Highmark, and Independence Blue Cross.

Sprout Therapeutics is considered out of network with all other insurance plans. However, many health insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits for individuals who are interested in seeing a provider who does not accept their insurance plan. We recommend calling your insurance company to find out if they reimburse for “out-of-network” speech therapy services. We are happy to provide a superbill to submit to insurance.

Sprout also provides private pay sessions at a discounted rate for families who would prefer to pay out of pocket.

  • A recent speech and language evaluation is required prior to beginning therapy services. If your child has never been evaluated or has been evaluated over six months ago, your therapist will complete a comprehensive speech and language evaluation prior to beginning services. If your child has been evaluated within the last six months, the therapist will review the evaluation report and determine whether or not a new evaluation is warranted. A comprehensive speech and language evaluation is crucial for tailoring effective therapy services to meet the specific needs of your child. This evaluation serves as the foundation for creating a personalized treatment plan that targets areas of improvement and builds on strengths. By ensuring that the evaluation is up-to-date and accurately reflects your child's current abilities, the therapist can provide targeted and effective therapy services that address their specific needs. Regular evaluations also allow for tracking progress over time, adjusting treatment goals as needed, and celebrating milestones achieved along the way.

  • Sure thing! Parents are welcome to actively participate or observe during their child’s speech therapy sessions. Your SLP will arm you with tons of tricks to keep the speech magic alive at home, making sure your child’s progress doesn't stop when the therapy session ends.

  • Did you know there are two ways to develop language?

Analytic language is the type of language acquisition often thought of and learned about. This is language learning that starts at the single word level and builds to phrases and eventually sentences.

Gestalt language acquisition is language learned in larger units of words first, rather than single words. The process of gestalt language development is described through Natural Language Acquisition. A gestalt language processor learns language in chunks of words rather than one single word at a time. GLP’s are often called “intonation babies”, as they focus on the sound of the utterance rather than the individual words. There is nothing “wrong” with gestalt language learning, and it is just a type of language learning.
